Poole Pottery "V" or "Leo the Lion" pattern vase 1934-1937

This super vase is by Poole Pottery. Made between 1934-1937 it is decorated with the "V" pattern also known as "Leo the Lion" presumably because the 3 large flowers that are contained in the central band of decoration, on closer inspection, look rather like a stylised (& friendly) lion. The base has the pink slip decoration and is impressed with "Poole England" in a rectangular cartouche. The shape number "599" is inscribed into the base revealing the white clay underneath. The letter "V" (the pattern number) is painted in black as are the letters "XX" which is the decorator's mark of Hilda Hampton who worked at Poole Pottery from 1927 - 45. The vase can be dated to between 1934 - 1937 as in 1934 the factory started using a white earthenware for all its production and between 1934 and 1937 the white clay was coloured red or pink by the application of a pink slip to the base.
